Education

  • Ph.D. Geography, Peking University, China, 2001
  • M.S. Geography, Peking University, China, 1995
  • B.S. Geography, Peking University, China, 1992

Research interests

GIS and spatial analysis: Applications of GIS to resolve various geographic and environmental issues including identification of spatial and temporal patterns of geographic and environmental features; data uncertainty and multiple source data integration; and digital city and integration of GIS with e-government systems.

Glacial geomorphology and cosmogenic nuclides: Applications of cosmogenic nuclide techniques to glacial geomorphology and paleo-climatology.  This is a part of international collaborative efforts among US, China and Sweden focusing on glacial histories and landscape development in Northern Sweden Mountains, Tibetan Plateau and Tian Shan Mountains, China.

Soil erosion and land use change:  Human impacts on soil erosion driven by land use change.  A comprehensive rapid assessment method for regional soil erosion in terms of land-use structure changes (SL-LUS) has been developed and applied to the Loess Plateau, China.  Future work will extend to other regions in which understanding land use change can be used in soil erosion management.
