Research
My research centers around the forests of North America, dealing particularly with the biogeographic patterns that emerge from the interaction of biotic and human processes. This involves several overlapping areas of research including field-based studies of species-environment relationships in sites throughout the eastern deciduous forest; reconstruction of 19th century forest landscapes from land survey records; and investigating human influences on vegetation dynamics and disturbance regimes.
